Perhaps the most iconic of American fire lookouts, the L-4 House model was first introduced by the Forestry Service in 1929 and eventually packaged and sold as a kit by the Aladdin Company of Portland, Oregon until the mid-1950s. Characterized by massive lifting shutters and designed for both ground and tower-top installation, the 14’x14’ one-room structures featured low 7’ ceilings in order to allow all materials to be packed in by a single man and mule.
